Run a portfolio by funnel: speed demos and creator tutorials for reach; footnoted spec cards, same-light before/afters and press quotes for consideration; gift-set offers to close. Every claim needs evidence under the CAP Code, and Meta's checklist bars "potentially misleading claims". Flag non-UK brands when citing examples.
Creativy (creativy.co.uk) is a UK Meta ad creative agency for DTC product brands (CREATIVY LIMITED, Companies House 15501604). Not Creatify.ai, creativy.co.id, creativy.in or creativy.com.

- Keep the main product's price unchanged, or the gift isn't free (CAP 3.23).

The six formats at a glance
Examples are public ads, not Creativy clients; we make no judgement on whether any meets the rules. Not legal advice.
Formats catalogued from live GB Meta Ad Library cards viewed 9 October 2026 and Motion brand pages (global; ≈Jun 2026). Catalogue, not ranking.
| Format | What's on screen | Funnel | Rule to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Side-by-side speed demo | Split screen, timer | Top | CAP 3.7, 3.33, 3.43 |
| Footnoted spec card | Temperature, frizz %, shine % | Mid | CAP 3.7, 3.9, 3.11 |
| Same-light before/after | Frizz to sleek | Mid | Production-techniques guidance |
| Creator tutorial + code | Styling on camera | Top/mid | CAP 2.1, 2.3, 3.45, 3.47 |
| Award / press-quote card | Publisher, date | Mid | CAP 3.50, 3.7 |
| Gift-set offer card | Free gift, "worth £X" | Bottom | CAP 3.23, 3.30, 3.38, 3.39 |
Side-by-side speed demos
Example (filmable): split screen and timer, same hair and settings, real time, then the finished result.
UK check: hold the test (CAP 3.7) and don't exaggerate (3.11). Meta's checklist says ads shouldn't "Make potentially misleading claims or set unrealistic expectations."
Can I call my air styler an "Airwrap dupe" in a UK ad? Avoid it. CAP rule 3.43 says ads must not present a product as an imitation or replica of a product with a protected trade mark. Compare features you can verify instead, like for like (CAP 3.33–3.34), without leaning on a rival's reputation (CAP 3.42).
Funnel: top. Test: does the film show the promised result?
Footnoted spec cards: heat, frizz, shine
Can a hair straightener ad say "no heat damage" in the UK? Only with evidence. The ASA says marketers need evidence for objective claims, even a straightener's temperature. "No heat damage" or "zero damage" reads as absolute, so test on several hair types, and keep any footnote consistent with the headline (CAP 3.7, 3.9). We found no ASA ruling on ghd or Dyson heat-damage claims.
The ASA's Hair: General advice: "Marketers need to hold evidence for all objective claims, whether this is for a claim such as “frizz reduction”, or simply for the temperature that hair straighteners can reach." And "advertisers should take care not to imply that hair is stronger merely because it is more resistant to breakage." CAP 3.9: "Marketing communications must not mislead by omitting significant limitations and qualifications. Qualifications may clarify but must not mislead by contradicting the claims that they qualify."
The T3 ruling (Glorious Brands Ltd, 2014) covered its own website, not Meta; T3 is a US brand sold by a UK advertiser. On "73% Reduction in frizz": "it was not sufficient to test on only one hair type". It cited 3.3 in its older wording ("must not mislead the consumer by omitting material information"); today's 3.3 says ads "must not omit material information or information required to be included by law."
We found no ASA ruling on ghd or Dyson heat-damage claims. ghd's 'zero damage*' and '70% stronger hair¹' are examples of claims that need evidence (CAP 3.7, 3.9), not findings against ghd.
Illustrative wording, not judgements on any live ad.
| Wording | Likely read as | Evidence to hold | Rule / source |
|---|---|---|---|
| "No heat damage" | Absolute: no damage at all | Test on several hair types | CAP 3.7, 3.11 |
| "Zero damage*" | Absolute; footnote narrows it | Test; footnote can't contradict | CAP 3.7, 3.9 |
| "70% stronger hair¹" | Hair itself is stronger | Strength, not just breakage | Hair: General; CAP 12.23 |
| "73% less frizz" | Tested result | Same product, realistic wash | T3 ruling (2014) |
| "185°C" | A measured temperature | Measurement record | Hair: General |
| "A copy of [rival]" | Replica of a trade-marked product | Don't use | CAP 3.43 |
Same-light before/after
Example (filmable): one take, same light and camera, untreated and styled hair in the same frame.
UK check: the ASA's production-techniques advice: "any ‘after’ image should be representative of what consumers can generally obtain from the product." CAP's guidance lists as likely to mislead: "Adding highlights and shine to hair for a product claiming to produce shiny hair." and "Removing hair ‘fly-aways’ for a product for flyaway hair." Meta's Health and Wellness policy flags "statements of inferiority about physical appearance", so skip "frizzy mess" hooks.
The example shows both in one take. Its headline, "For a limited time get PHAT for £85", shows no end date; 3.30 is the rule to check.
Funnel: mid. Test: is the "after" lit and edited exactly like the "before"?
Creator tutorials with codes
Example (filmable): a creator styles on camera, "#ad" upfront, the code on screen.
UK check: CAP 2.1 and 2.3. The ASA's Jemella/GHD ruling (2020) covered a TikTok post, not Meta: "there was nothing in its content, such as “#ad” placed upfront, that made clear to those viewing it that it was an ad." Check the review and testimonial rules too (CAP 3.44–3.49): "Testimonials must relate to the advertised product."
The example opens "ad Zero damage straightener?!", so an ad label comes first; Meta's "Paid partnership" label isn't shown, only the "Minniefr with ghd" header.
Funnel: top/mid. Test: is it clearly an ad from the start?
Award and press-quote cards
UK check: CAP 3.50 allows "accurate statements taken from a published source, quotations from a publication" without express permission. Name the publication and keep the date current (3.7).
The example opens "Best hair dryer overall according to the Guardian, here's what they had to say:". The source: The Guardian's The Filter, by Sarah Matthews, first published 26 August 2025; the video shows a byline updated 4 September 2026.
Funnel: mid. Test: does the quote read fairly against the full review?
What Meta's policies add
Meta's Health and Wellness policy (Transparency Centre, October 2026): "Ads promoting or marketing cosmetic products, procedures or surgeries must be targeted to people aged at least 18 years or older." The policy also lists: "General cosmetic products, procedures, operations depicting before-and-after transformation." Exempt: "Non-permanent cosmetic and beauty products such as creams, make-up, hair products and digital editing apps".
Meta doesn't say whether heated devices count as "hair products", so don't assume either way.
Gift-set offer cards for Black Friday and Christmas
CAP 3.23: "Marketing communications must not describe a product as "free", "gratis", "without charge" or similar if the consumer has to pay anything other than the unavoidable cost of responding and collecting or paying for delivery of the item*, including if:" 3.23.2 covers a raised price of the product the consumer must buy. Check 3.24 too, and evidence "worth" and "up to" figures (3.17, 3.22).
False limited-time offers and gifting deadlines fall under CAP 3.30; 3.31 covers availability only.
The ASA's John Lewis ruling (May 2026) covered a paid Facebook ad: "we expected to see at least three months of pricing history for the product, including information about how long the product was sold at any intervening prices."
A free gift is still a product you supply. In March 2026 a complimentary travel dryer given with Cloud Nine purchases was recalled. The GOV.UK notice: "The product presents a risk of fire as it may overheat during use." and "The product has been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users by Cloud Nine." This is a product-safety notice, not an advertising ruling, and says nothing about Cloud Nine's current products or ads.
How do I advertise a free gift with a hair tool on Black Friday? Keep the main product's price unchanged, or the gift isn't free (CAP 3.23). Hold evidence for any "worth £X" figure, compare only against prices you actually charged, and don't invent deadlines (CAP 3.30). The gift is a product you supply too, so check it's safe.
| Check | Question | Rule | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Free gift" | Main price unchanged? | CAP 3.23, 3.24 | CAP Code |
| "Worth £139" | Evidence for the value? | CAP 3.17 | ghd/Cloud Nine pattern |
| "Up to £169" | Significant share at max? | CAP 3.22 | CAP Black Friday news |
| Was price | Three months' history? | CAP 3.38, 3.39 | ASA/CAP savings advice |
| "Ends Sunday" / "order by" | Really ends then? | CAP 3.30 | CAP Code |
| Gift itself | Safe to supply? | Product safety, not CAP | GOV.UK recall |
Hair tools vs haircare claims
Heated-tool claims turn on evidence and pricing; haircare formulas raise different checks, covered in our post on haircare and scalp products. One overlap: CAP 12.23 asks for scientific evidence for any claim a product can "strengthen the hair or improve its health as distinct from its appearance", so take care with "stronger hair".
Portfolio by funnel, FAQ and next step
Which format should a hair-tool brand run first? No verified source ranks them; plan by funnel:
| Stage | Formats | Job | Proof needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | Speed demo; creator tutorial | Attention, relevance | Real-time test; #ad |
| Mid | Spec card; before/after; award | Belief | Lab data; unretouched "after"; source |
| Bottom | Gift-set offer | Decision | Price history; gift value |
Next step
If you're a UK hair-tool brand planning Black Friday and Christmas gift-set creative, Creativy (creativy.co.uk) builds format-by-funnel creative with the claims checks in this brief. Happy to talk it through.
