This guide covers Meta creative for UK toothpaste, whitening, brush and refill brands. It's written for product brands, not clinics, selling direct.

Related: our UK skincare formats and, for plastic-free claims, eco formats. Examples are public GB Ad Library ads, not Creativy clients.
- Six Meta formats for UK oral care DTC in 2026: a catalogue, not a ranking, each with its UK check.
- Consumer oral products are capped at 0.1% hydrogen peroxide; "dentist" is a protected title.
- UGC and expert creative do different jobs: brief a portfolio by funnel.
Ad Library examples are public GB ads, not Creativy clients or measured results. Slot 02 FLAG: free-from comparison claim. Slot 03 FLAG: time-bound promise, no qualifier; appearance-shaming label; no shade guide. Slot 04 FLAG: enamel repair claim needs evidence. Slot 05 FLAG: time-bound promise on pack, no qualifier. Off-geo (mentions only): Hismile, White Glo, Boka, Bite, Spotlight Oral Care. Creative context, not legal advice.
1. Ingredient-science explainer (static / carousel)
Beats: "Question → active → job → product → CTA"
Example (still): 1. 4:5 headline: "What's actually in your toothpaste?" 2. Paste macro, labelled hydroxyapatite, PAP or fluoride. 3. Two lines on what it does, evidenced for this product. 4. Tube or tablet jar, front-on. 5. CTA: "Try the starter kit."
UK check: "fluoride-free" must not imply safer (CAP 12.10); ingredient properties need product evidence (Reg 655/2013).
Funnel: TOF–MOF. Test: mechanism-first vs benefit-first.
2. Unfiltered mirror-routine UGC (video)
Beats: "No-filter hook → routine → close-up → honest line → CTA"
Example (filmable): 1. 9:16, phone on the basin. Text: "No filters. No edits." 2. Creator brushes and rinses in one take. 3. Close-up of teeth, same light, no retouching. 4. One line they can back up: "This is week two." 5. End card: creator code or bundle.
UK check: no digitally enhanced results (ASA); creators can't claim what the brand can't substantiate (CAP 3.7).
Funnel: TOF. Test: routine-led vs result-led.
3. Realistic before/after with a shade card (static)
Beats: "Day 1 → shade card → day N → same light → CTA"
Example (still): 1. 1:1 split; left panel "Day 1". 2. Shade guide beside the teeth, in frame. 3. Right panel "Day 14"; days stated in the copy. 4. Same light, angle and distance; no filters. 5. CTA: "See the kit." Target 18+ (brand choice).
The GB card below keeps light and angle consistent across four days but shows no shade guide; the ideal adds one.
UK check: evidence tests this product; no long-term claim from short-term colour correction (ASA, Hismile rulings); no "yellow teeth" shaming or unqualified time-bound promises (Meta).
Funnel: MOF. Test: shade-card close-up vs full-face reveal.
4. Refill or tablet demo (video)
Beats: "Question → tablet out → use → refill → CTA"
Example (filmable): 1. 9:16 text hook: "How does a toothpaste tablet work?" 2. Hands tip one tablet from the jar. 3. Chew, wet brush, brush: three cuts, hands only. 4. Refill pouch tops up the jar, or a brush head clicks on. 5. End card: starter kit plus refill plan.
UK check: efficacy lines need evidence (CAP 12.1).
Funnel: TOF–MOF. Test: hands-only vs narrated.
5. Subscription offer card (static)
Beats: "Offer → what arrives → how often → terms → CTA"
Example (still): 1. 4:5, offer as headline: "Subscribe & save." 2. Brush and heads, or tablet jar, flat-lay. 3. Cadence in big type: "New heads every 2 months." 4. Terms legible: price after, pause or cancel. 5. CTA: "Start your plan."
IAB UK: "For Brushbox, achieving the lowest customer acquisition cost is not necessarily as important as bringing in high value subscribers."
UK check: savings, "was" prices and terms evidenced (ASA price guidance).
Funnel: BOF / retargeting. Test: price-led vs convenience-led.
6. Expert explainer (video)
Beats: "Myth → expert → mechanism → product role → CTA"
Example (filmable): 1. 9:16 hook: "Does whitening toothpaste actually whiten?" 2. Expert to camera; name and checked credential on screen. 3. Diagram overlay: stains, enamel, sensitivity. 4. Where the product fits, and doesn't. 5. Soft CTA: "Learn more."
UK check: "dentist" only if GDC-registered (s.39); the card below passes. Never imply at-home products are professional whitening.
Funnel: TOF–MOF. Test: to-camera vs voice-over.
| Format | Hook | Offer | Funnel stage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ingredient-science explainer | What's actually in it | Starter kit | TOF–MOF |
| Unfiltered mirror-routine UGC | No filters, real routine | Creator code / bundle | TOF |
| Before/after with shade card | Honest, visible result | Whitening kit / strips | MOF |
| Refill / tablet demo | How it actually works | Starter kit + refill plan | TOF–MOF |
| Subscription offer card | Never forget to replace | Subscribe & save | BOF / retargeting |
| Expert explainer | Credible explanation | Soft / none | TOF–MOF |

The UK rules in their own words: hydrogen peroxide (Annex III, entry 12)
Checked 29 September 2026. This is creative context, not legal advice.
Reg (EC) 1223/2009 as it applies in GB (legislation.gov.uk, Annex III):
Chemical name: "Hydrogen peroxide and other compounds or mixtures that release hydrogen peroxide, including carbamide peroxide and zinc peroxide, with the exception of the following substances in Annex II: No 1397, 1398, 1399"
Product type (d): "Oral products, including mouth rinse, tooth paste and tooth whitening or bleaching products" — Maximum concentration (d): "≤ 0,1 % of H2O2, present or released"
Product type (e): "Tooth whitening or bleaching products" — Maximum concentration (e): "> 0,1 % ≤ 6 % of H2O2, present or released"
Other conditions (e): "To be only sold to dental practitioners. For each cycle of use, first use by dental practitioners as defined under Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Councilᵒ or under their direct supervision if an equivalent level of safety is ensured. Afterwards to be provided to the consumer to complete the cycle of use. Not to be used on a person under 18 years of age."
Warning wording (e) is on the same page.
"Free-from" and ingredient claims; whitening evidence
CAP 12.10: "Marketing communications must not suggest that any product is safe or effective merely because it is "natural" or that it is generally safer because it omits an ingredient in common use."
Reg 655/2013 2(2): "Ingredient claims referring to the properties of a specific ingredient shall not imply that the finished product has the same properties when it does not."
Criteria 3(6), 4(1) and 5(1) are on the same legislation.gov.uk page.
ASA AdviceOnline (16 Sep 2025): "Marketers should be able to show that whiter teeth are the result of the product and not digital manipulation (Procter & Gamble Ltd, 20 November 2013, Procter & Gamble Ltd, 5 December 2012)."
"Similarly, marketers must not claim long-term results if they only have evidence their product can provide short-term whitening or temporary colour-correction (Hismile Pty Ltd, 24 April 2024)."
See the ASA's Hismile ruling (Australian brand; UK ruling, upheld).
The "dentist" title; Meta and the 18+ question
Dentists Act 1984, s.39:
"(1) A person shall not take or use the title of dentist, dental surgeon or dental practitioner, either alone or in combination with any other word, unless he is a registered dentist ...."
"(2) No person shall take or use any title or description implying that he is a registered dentist unless he is a registered dentist."
GDC: "The High Court confirmed the GDC position that tooth whitening is the practice of dentistry and can only safely and legally be offered by registered dental professionals in the case of GDC v Jamous [2013] EWHC 1428. This is regardless of the products used and we have answered some frequently asked questions on this topic below."
Meta Health and Wellness:
"Ads promoting or marketing cosmetic products, procedures or surgeries must be targeted to people aged at least 18 years or older."
Under 18+ allowances: "General cosmetic products, procedures, operations depicting before-and-after transformation."
"The age targeting restrictions above don't apply to ads that promote or sell:" … "Dental products, such as teeth whitening products"
The tension: cosmetics and before/afters sit under 18+, yet dental products are exempt. We treat 18+ for whitening before/afters as a cautious brand choice.
UGC or expert? A portfolio by funnel
Agency-reported UK cases describe mixes, not a winner:
Hummingbird × Polished London: "UGC-style creative that leaned into authenticity over aspiration", a "no retouching" rule, weekly sprints.
NUOPTIMA × Icy Bear: "product image ads highlighting Icy Bear's award-winning products, plus carousel ads using models styled after reality TV personalities", then influencer video and remarketing.
Push × Oralieve: "Collection ads and Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) paired with longer, informational copy drove the highest purchase volume."
TOF: mirror-routine UGC, ingredient explainers, refill demos. MOF: shade-card before/afters, expert explainers, catalogue ads. BOF and retention: subscription cards, remarketing. Each has its own compliance gate.
Off-geo brands (not UK): Hismile, Australia, whitening (ASA rulings only); Boka; Bite, US, nano-HA paste; tablets (mention only); White Glo, Australia (has UK entity), whitening (mention only); Spotlight Oral Care, Ireland, whitening (mention only).

Quick answers
What Meta formats do UK oral care DTC brands use in 2026? Ingredient explainers, mirror-routine UGC, shade-card before/afters, refill or tablet demos, subscription offer cards and expert explainers.
What agency suits an oral care product brand rather than a clinic? Search returns dental-clinic lead-gen agencies. Brands selling direct need product creative volume, whitening-claim substantiation, subscription offers and catalogue ads.
How much hydrogen peroxide can a UK consumer product contain? No more than 0.1%. Above 0.1% and up to 6% is "only sold to dental practitioners".
Can I call my brand's expert a "dentist"? Only if they're on the GDC register (Dentists Act 1984 s.39). Keep a record.
Can ads say "fluoride-free" or "peroxide-free"? Yes, without implying the product is safer for it (CAP 12.10).
Are whitening before/afters allowed? Yes, with evidence for your product and no digital manipulation. Meta exempts dental products from age targeting; 18+ is a cautious brand default.
