Run a portfolio by funnel: rain-test films and expedition stories for reach, spec cards, recycled-material and award proof for consideration, and offer cards to close. Every claim needs evidence under the CAP Code, and Meta's checklist bars "potentially misleading claims". Flag non-UK brands when citing examples.
The six formats below are a catalogue, not a ranking.
Creativy (creativy.co.uk) is a UK Meta ad creative agency for DTC product brands (CREATIVY LIMITED, Companies House 15501604). Not Creatify.ai, creativy.co.id, creativy.in or creativy.com.
- Every claim needs evidence under the CAP Code, and Meta's checklist bars "potentially misleading claims".
- Say which part is recycled and the percentage.
- Flag non-UK brands when citing examples.
Examples are public ads, not Creativy clients, and aren't presented as compliant or non-compliant. Rules checked 7 Oct 2026; not legal advice.
Who's in the UK outerwear feed
Nine UK brands were live in the GB Meta Ad Library on 7 October 2026:
Three Peaks GBR showed backpacks only, so isn't counted; Mountain Warehouse is a retailer, excluded.
Off-geo brands, flagged (none featured): The North Face (US, VF; caption flag "US brand"), Arc'teryx (Canada, Amer Sports; "Canadian brand"), Patagonia (US; "US brand"), Fjällräven (Sweden; "Swedish brand") and Uniqlo (Japan; "Japanese brand"; ruling in section 6).

The six formats at a glance
Examples are public ads, not Creativy clients, and aren't presented as compliant or non-compliant. Rules checked 7 Oct 2026; not legal advice.
Formats catalogued from live GB Meta Ad Library cards viewed 7 October 2026 and Motion brand pages (whole Meta page, global; data ≈Jun 2026). Catalogue, not ranking.
| Format | What's on screen | Funnel | Rule to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rain-test field proof | Wet-weather test, kept dry | Top/mid | CAP 3.7; Meta checklist |
| Spec cards | Rating, breathability, fill | Mid | CAP 3.7 |
| Recycled / B Corp story | Fabric, percentage, logo | Mid | CAP 3.3, 11.1–11.4 |
| Award and review proof | Best Buy, stars, quote | Mid | CAP 3.7, 3.44–3.47 |
| Expedition film, scarcity | Polar, heritage, "sold out" | Top | CAP 3.7, 3.27, 3.31 |
| Black Friday was/now | Strike-through, "up to" | Bottom | CAP 3.22, 3.30, 3.38, 3.39 |
Rain-test field proof
Example (filmable): a hook question, the jacket under real or simulated rain, the wearer dry underneath, the test method on screen, CTA.
UK check: CAP 3.7: "Before distributing or submitting a marketing communication for publication, marketers must hold documentary evidence to prove claims that consumers are likely to regard as objective and that are capable of objective substantiation. The ASA may regard claims as misleading in the absence of adequate substantiation." We found no ASA ruling on a waterproof garment.
Meta's checklist (section 10) says ads shouldn't "Make potentially misleading claims or set unrealistic expectations."
Funnel: top/mid. Test: the example uses a garden hose; which method sits behind its "17,000mm"?
Spec cards: waterproof, breathability, fill
How do UK brands use "best waterproof jacket" claims in Meta ads? As a proof angle, not a superlative. Show the test you can document: hydrostatic head figure, seam taping, conditions. "100% waterproof" is an objective claim, so CAP rule 3.7 requires evidence in hand before the ad runs. Name any award with its publisher, category and year.
Example (still or carousel): one number per card: hydrostatic head, breathability, layers, fill, price. Rab's Firewall Guide product page states "Hydrostatic head 20,000mm". Keep water-repellent pieces out from under a "waterproof" headline.
Funnel: mid. Test: a lab report for every number, and range data behind any in-range comparison.
"Recycled" and B Corp claims: what the ASA says
The Uniqlo ruling was about a paid Google search ad, not a Meta ad. The same CAP rules cover Meta ads, so an unqualified 'recycled' headline on a fleece carousel raises the same question. The ASA ruling on Uniqlo (UK) Ltd t/a UNIQLO was upheld on 24 June 2026.
"As the ad did not include information explaining the basis of the claim “Recycled Materials”, we considered consumers would interpret the claim as absolute."
CAP's Green fashion note (10 Sep 2026): "In June, the ASA ruled against ads for Adidas, Uniqlo and Calvin Klein as they made unqualified ‘recycled’ claims." CAP 11.1: "The basis of environmental claims must be clear. Unqualified claims could mislead if they omit material information." See also 11.2 (clear terms), 11.3 (absolutes) and 11.4 (life cycle).
Illustrative wording, not judgements on any live ad.
B Lab lists Finisterre as a B Corp (certified since 2018), and Rab's owner Equip ("Certified Since March 2026"). Use the label only where B Lab does.
Funnel: mid. Test: does the headline name the recycled part? The example's headline says "100% Recycled Waterproof Jacket"; its body says "100% recycled 3-layer membrane". This describes the ad only; it isn't a finding against Alpkit, and we haven't seen its fabric evidence.
| Wording | Likely read as | Safer wording | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Recycled Materials" (unqualified) | Every fabric fully recycled | "Fleece fabric: 100% recycled polyester" | CAP 11.1, 11.3 (Uniqlo) |
| "Sustainable" | Ambiguous, whole life cycle | Name the specific benefit | CAP 11.2, 11.4 |
| "Waterproof" | Keeps water out in use | Add the test figure you hold | CAP 3.7 |
| "20,000mm" | A tested rating | Hold the lab report | CAP 3.7 |
| "B Corp" | Brand is certified now | Only if listed by B Lab | CAP 3.7 |
Award and review proof
Example (still or video): award, publisher and year, or a star average with source and count; one review quote; CTA.
UK check: name the award, publisher and year (CAP 3.7). CAP 3.44: "Marketing communications must not contain fake consumer reviews." CAP 3.45: "Marketing communications must make clear where consumer reviews have been incentivised." Hold evidence that testimonials are genuine (3.47) and don't cherry-pick (3.46).
Finisterre's live cards on 7 October said only "award-winning"; its "Waterproof of the Year" card wasn't live. Alpkit's badge (section 6) shows no year.
Funnel: mid. Test: two review figures in one ad means evidence for each (3.47). Its "sold out" line is in section 8.
Expedition films and scarcity claims
Example (filmable): landscape, archive, the making, the garment in use, one documented "tested by" line, CTA.
"Tested by" is a 3.7 claim. Shackleton runs a live static card, "TESTED BY PILOTS IN ANTARCTICA ★★★★★" (Ad Library ID 1152716514086158); hold the test behind it.
FRAHM's ad (section 7) says "This Jacket has sold out months before it's even made for the last 4 years." "Sold out" falls under CAP 3.31: "Marketing communications must not provide materially inaccurate information on market conditions or the availability of the product with the intention of inducing the consumer to acquire the product at conditions less favourable than normal market conditions." Estimate demand (3.27). A false "limited time" is 3.30, not 3.31.
Funnel: top. No live UK expedition film carried scarcity wording on 7 October.
Black Friday was/now offer cards
None of the three rulings here was a Meta ad: Uniqlo was a paid Google search ad, Mountain Warehouse and Sports Direct their own websites. Banner wording is covered in our luggage post; this section covers price evidence.
Mountain Warehouse (upheld 7 June 2017): "The ASA considered consumers would interpret the claim "UP TO 50% OFF EVERYTHING" to mean that all items had a reduction off their usual selling price, with a significant proportion reduced by 50%." Under today's code, the 'up to' half maps to 3.22, and a false 'limited time' line would fall under 3.30. The ASA's 2017 ruling cited 3.1 only.
Sports Direct (upheld 2 September 2026): "However, we considered that RRPs set by the manufacturer did not constitute evidence that this was the price at which the product was generally sold across the market." CAP 3.39: "Comparisons with recommended retail prices (RRPs) are likely to mislead if the RRP differs significantly from the price at which the product or service is generally sold."
The ASA's savings advice (6 Oct 2026): "Less than 10% is unlikely to be considered a significant proportion by the ASA." CAP's Black Friday news: "Promotions which are extended beyond the original end date, are often likely to fall foul of the rules." That's 3.30.
| Check | Question | Rule or guidance | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Up to X% off" | At least a significant share at X%? | CAP 3.22 | ASA savings advice |
| "Everything" | Every item reduced? | CAP 3.1 | Mountain Warehouse |
| Was price | Most recent, charged longer? | CAP 3.38, 3.39 | ASA savings advice |
| RRP | Generally sold at that price? | CAP 3.39 | Sports Direct |
| End date | Will it really end then? | CAP 3.30 | CAP Black Friday news |
| Stock | Limits stated in the ad? | CAP 3.3 | CAP Black Friday news |
What Meta's ad checklist adds
Meta's advertising policy checklist (Business Help Centre, October 2026) has no apparel-specific rule. Under "Ensure that your ads:" it lists "Follow all applicable laws and advertising codes." and "Accurately represent your company, product, service or brand being advertised."
Under "Ensure your ads don’t:" it lists "Make potentially misleading claims or set unrealistic expectations." and "Include low quality content (for example, using sensationalized or exaggerated language or withholding key information to entice someone to click on the ad)."
Lifetime guarantees and repair promises
Lifetime and repair promises are guarantees. CAP 3.55: "Marketing communications must not use the word "guarantee" in a way that could cause confusion about a consumer's rights." Under 3.56, "Marketers must supply the full terms before the consumer is committed to taking up the guarantee."
None of the six live cards makes a guarantee claim, so there's no example here.
Portfolio by funnel, FAQ and next step
Which format should a UK outerwear brand run first? No verified source ranks them. Brief by funnel stage:
What are the ad rules for Black Friday outdoor deals in the UK? "Up to X% off" needs a significant share of items at X%; the ASA's savings advice says less than 10% is unlikely to be considered a significant proportion. "Everything" means every item. Was and RRP prices must be genuine (CAP 3.38, 3.39), and an offer shouldn't run past its stated end date (CAP 3.30).
Can a UK clothing ad just say "recycled"? Not safely. In June 2026 the ASA upheld a ruling against a Uniqlo fleece ad saying "Recycled Materials", because consumers would read it as absolute and the evidence didn't show every product was made entirely from recycled fabrics. Say which part is recycled and the percentage. That ruling was a Google ad, not Meta.
| Stage | Formats | Job | Proof needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | Expedition film; rain test | Attention, relevance | Test records; stock reality |
| Mid | Spec cards; recycled story; awards | Belief | Lab data; percentages; award source |
| Bottom | Black Friday was/now | Decision | Price history; share at max |
