Underwear & Lingerie Meta Ads in the UK: Top 6 Formats for Bras, Knickers, Period Pants and Men's Underwear (2026)

UK underwear and lingerie brands on Meta run six recurring formats: creator try-ons with size on screen, function demos, product-only stills and carousels, offer-first bundle banners, founder or bra-fitter explainers, and inclusive-range montages.

Yes, within limits. Meta's Health and Wellness ad policy lists "Lingerie, swimwear or undergarments, as long as they do not violate the Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity policy." The ASA says "Some partial nudity in ads for products such as lingerie or swimwear is generally likely to be acceptable as this would be relevant to the product being advertised."

This is for underwear product brands selling direct. "Top 6" is a catalogue, not a ranking.

Creativy (creativy.co.uk) is a UK Meta ad creative agency for DTC product brands (CREATIVY LIMITED, Companies House 15501604). Not Creatify.ai, creativy.co.id or creativy.in.

Placement-type formats for clothing are in our fashion post.

  • Each needs its own check against Meta's adult nudity standard and the ASA's rules on objectification.
  • No verified source says which format wins for UK underwear on Meta.
  • Brief by job and measure in your own account.

Examples below are public GB Ad Library ads, not Creativy clients. Every card shown has adult models with faces in frame, or none, and no body-part crop. Rules checked 1 October 2026; creative context, not legal advice. No live GB try-on card passed our imagery rule on 1 October 2026, so this format is described without an example.

Can you advertise lingerie on Meta in the UK?

The limits come from both sides. Meta's adult nudity and sexual activity ad standard doesn't mention lingerie. Under "For the following types of content, ads should target users above the age of 18:" it lists "Photorealistic or digital imagery", "Focused on individual body parts, such as groin, buttock or female breast(s)" and "Depicting people in sexually suggestive poses, revealing clothing or stripping".

The ASA's 2020 guidance continues: "However, marketers should not take this to mean that all ads for these types of products are going to be acceptable and care needs to be taken to ensure that the ads are not overtly risqué or inviting the public to view the model’s body as an object."

Creator try-on with size on screen

Example (filmable): 1. 9:16 text overlay: "34E, wearing M." 2. Creator standing naturally, face in frame, garment visible. 3. Fit notes said aloud: band, straps, fabric. 4. Same style, second colour or size. 5. End card: bundle or new-in.

Creator try-on diagram
How the format works: Creator try-on, size on screen.

The ASA's 2020 guidance: "For example, ads displaying gratuitous nudity when it is irrelevant to the product being sold, or ads that focus solely on the model’s body whilst obscuring their face are likely to be a problem."

UK check: Meta lists "revealing clothing" among content that should target users above the age of 18, so set 18+ targeting if the try-on shows it. CAP 4.8 rules out sexual portrayal of anyone who is, or seems to be, under 18: cast clearly adult creators. Hold proof that any spoken review is genuine (CAP 3.47).

No live GB try-on card passed our imagery rule on 1 October 2026, so this format is described without an example.

Funnel: top/mid. Test: does stating size on screen change saves or returns in your own account?

Function demo and CAP 3.7

Example (filmable): 1. Hook: "How much does the heavy-flow style hold?" 2. Pour test on the garment alone, beaker in shot. 3. Band stretch, or the garment under a white tee. 4. Wash and wear. 5. CTA: the style shown.

CAP 3.7: "Before distributing or submitting a marketing communication for publication, marketers must hold documentary evidence to prove claims that consumers are likely to regard as objective and that are capable of objective substantiation. The ASA may regard claims as misleading in the absence of adequate substantiation."

UK check: "leak-proof", "holds X tampons' worth", "12-hour" and support claims are objective claims, so hold lab data for the exact style and absorbency level shown (CAP 3.1 and 3.7). The Wuka ruling (19 July 2023) found realistic period imagery acceptable in context: "We therefore concluded the ad did not breach the Codes." It was an offence ruling, not a claims ruling; we found no ASA ruling on absorbency claims.

Funnel: mid. Test: is every number on screen backed by a test report for that SKU?

Product-only stills and carousels

Example (still or carousel): 1. Flat-lay or hanger shot on a plain ground. 2. Fabric close-up: lace, cotton, seam. 3. Colourway carousel, one card per colour. 4. Size range card: "30A–44H". 5. CTA: shop the set.

Product-only stills diagram
How the format works: Product-only stills.

UK check: this format has the least exposure to Meta's 18+ imagery list and to ASA objectification. Fabric and fit claims still fall under CAP 3.1 and 3.7. If "sustainable", "organic" or "bamboo" appear, the CAP Code section 11 environmental rules apply too.

Funnel: top/retargeting. Test: product-only vs try-on as a cold opener, in your account.

Offer-first bundle banners

Example (still): "3 for £X" or "free knickers with any bra" in large type, the bundle as a pack shot or flat-lay, promotion terms and closing date legible.

Based on Ad Library ID 1489071919357986, Kecks: product-only boxer brief 3-pack multi-buy. FLAG: innuendo ("BIG PACK ENERGY"); saving claims; "No ride-up. No chafe." needs evidence.

Offer-first bundle diagram
How the format works: Offer-first bundle.

CAP 3.1: "Marketing communications must not materially mislead or be likely to do so."

UK check: price and saving claims need evidence under CAP 3.7, and promotion terms should be clear. Bundle ads tend to run broad, so any model image has to be one that would pass in an untargeted placement (see Imagery and placement rules).

Funnel: bottom/retention. Test: which bundle suits your average order value? The example above pairs its saving with innuendo; keep copy to garment and fit (Table 2).

Founder and bra-fitter explainers

Example (filmable): 1. Hook: "Band or cup: which one is wrong?" 2. Founder or trained fitter, clothed, to camera. 3. Garment on a hanger or a clothed model: band, cup, sister sizes. 4. One fitting-at-home tip. 5. CTA: fit guide or quiz.

Based on Ad Library ID 1558256696090296, Lunã, closest live GB card: founder to camera about a sale, not fit. FLAG: multi-buy claims; absorbency claim needs evidence.

Founder and bra-fitter diagram
How the format works: Founder/fitter explainer.

UK check: the ASA's Offence: Sex page cites a 2016 radio ad ruled against for inviting listeners to focus on women's bra size; talk fit, never bodies. Fit-accuracy claims need evidence (CAP 3.7). No regulated title applies to bra fitting, so describe training accurately and don't invent one. Meta's personal attributes policy says ads can't "Imply knowledge of Medical information of a user or user's family", so skip posture or pain hooks aimed at the viewer.

Funnel: top/mid. Test: does an educational opener lift profile visits or quiz starts? No passing fitter video was live on 1 October 2026; the example above shows the founder piece-to-camera half of the format.

Inclusive-range montages

Example (still or video): 1. Hook: the size range in numbers. 2. Adult models across sizes and skin tones, faces in frame. 3. Size label on each: "32B", "38F", "44H". 4. Fabric close-up. 5. CTA: find your size.

How the format works: Inclusive-range montage.

CAP 4.9 is the gender-stereotypes rule: "Marketing communications must not include gender stereotypes that are likely to cause harm, or serious or widespread offence." It applies to montages only through the ASA's body image advice:

"All marketing communications should be prepared with a sense of responsibility to consumers and society (rule 1.3). Advertisers should ensure that they don’t portray particular body types in an irresponsible manner or present an unhealthy body image as aspirational, exploit people’s insecurities about their body image, or suggest that happiness or wellbeing depends on conforming to a particular physical appearance, or gender stereotypical body type or physical features (rule 4.9)."

UK check: the main rules are CAP 1.3 and, if you claim "unretouched" or "for every body", CAP 3.1 and 3.7. Hold evidence for every frame.

Funnel: top. Test: can you evidence "unretouched" for every frame? No multi-model montage passed our imagery rule; the example above shows one model per card.

Imagery and placement rules

Where underwear ads can appear:

Context counts. CAP 4.1: "Compliance will be judged on the context, medium, audience, product and prevailing standards."

Online. Keeping unsuitable ads from children "may involve using age and interest-based targeting tools" (ASA). Meta's listed imagery should target users above the age of 18.

Untargeted and outdoor media. The ASA's 2020 guidance: "In short, imagery considered ‘overtly/explicitly sexual’ is prohibited in outdoor, untargeted, media and material considered ‘sexually suggestive’ should carry a placement restriction, ensuring it does not appear within 100 metres of a school."

Organic posts count too. Boux Avenue (10 August 2022) was ruled on for an influencer's image reposted to its own Facebook page.

The ruling: "We considered these aspects of the image emphasised the model's buttocks, making them more prominent, which resulted in them becoming the dominant focus of the image. We considered this objectified the model in a sexual way."

The Em Rose ruling (3 January 2024) applied the untargeted-medium test to a lingerie poster. Rules, not legal advice.

Men's underwear

The same rules apply. CAP 4.1 lists "sex" and "gender" among the grounds for offence, and Meta's 18+ list names the "groin".

The objectification test, from the ASA's Offence: Sex page: "The ASA upheld a complaint about an ad for an estate agency which pictured a man’s torso and stated “WOW, WHAT A PACKAGE”, and further text covering his crotch, because they considered that the ad was likely to have the effect of objectifying the man by using his physical features to draw attention to an unrelated product (Lewis Oliver Estates Ltd, 11 July 2018)."

The explicitness limit, from Offence: Nudity: "The ASA upheld complaints about email ads for an online underwear retailer which featured images of models wearing underwear through which their penises were visible."

Lead with fabric, fit and anti-chafe demos, waist-up try-ons with the face in shot, or product-only. No crotch-led crops. Kecks, the UK men's brand in the bundle example, also runs a product-held card (Ad Library ID 1722216252127269).

Portfolio by funnel, not a winner

No verified source says which format wins for UK underwear on Meta. A vendor page from SaliencyLab puts it well: "Creator-led and studio are production descriptions, not performance measurements." Brief by job and measure in your own account.

UK brands worth checking in the GB Ad Library include Lounge Underwear, Boux Avenue, Bluebella, Pour Moi, Heist, Bravissimo and WUKA. Off-geo brands such as SKIMS, Savage X Fenty, MeUndies (US), Knix (Canada) and Modibodi or Boody (Australia) need a country flag in any caption.

Frequently asked questions

What Meta ad formats do UK underwear brands run in 2026? UK underwear and lingerie brands on Meta run six recurring formats: creator try-ons with size on screen, function demos, product-only stills and carousels, offer-first bundle banners, founder or bra-fitter explainers, and inclusive-range montages. Each needs its own check against Meta's adult nudity standard and the ASA's rules on objectification.

Can a period-pant ad say "leak-proof"? Only with evidence. CAP rule 3.7 requires documentary evidence for any claim consumers would see as objective, before the ad runs. Leak-proof, absorbency and wear-time figures are objective claims. Hold lab test data for the exact style and absorbency level shown, and make on-screen numbers match it.

Where can suggestive underwear ads appear? Not in untargeted media if overtly sexual. The ASA's 2020 guidance bans overtly sexual imagery from outdoor and untargeted media and keeps suggestive material 100 metres from schools. Online, the ASA expects age and interest-based targeting. Meta's ad standard says such ads should target users above the age of 18.
